Summer has finally arrived! But what should I wear you ask? no worries, here are some great runway-inspired ideas that are sure to make you want to ditch that funky floral T-shirt and make your sunny vacay as fabulous as ever!
1. Embellishment.
Whether it's beading, sequins, gems or glitter, its been all over the runways and always catches the eye. Embellishment never fails to make an outfit more fun and is adjustable to your liking. A little kapow glittering under the sun never hurt anyone so lets all make a resolution to dare to wear more embellishment this summer! We'll call it "bedazzle chic":):)
2. Watercolors
Watercolors would normally be a spring pick for me but it works for summer too! Watercolors are definitely a softer, more under spoken way to wear bold colors and can be worn with or without jewelry. I would suggest watercolor patterns as a warm put-together daytime look.
3. Simple + statement
I must confess that I have become absolutely obsessed with bib necklaces and large statement jewelry. I think they look particularly amazing paired with simple outfits and since it's easier to simplify your look during the summer, I would say to definitely chunky up your jewelry. I would love to see this very simple summer/spring 2011 Alexander Wang worn with this large Indian style necklace to the right.
4. White
The white on white look has been trending on the runways a lot this summer and I love it! White on white is so fabulous and classic and very easy to accessorize. It's great for summer whether it's a busy day for you or you're feeling more layed back. White is very wearable, works on all skin tones and all body types.
5. Natural
This season, Stella McCartney, Roberto Cavalli, Chloe and Herve Leger are just some of the names that are going bare on the runway. Natural tones, natural hair, natural makeup is in. Less is more and fashionistas everywhere are putting on less and less makeup, giving their hair a tousle and heading out the door. This summer try wearing your hair natural, putting on a dab of moisturizer for a dewy glow, some tinted lip balm and you're ready to go. A natural face brings more attention to your fabulous outfit and let's your inner beauty shine.
6. Holographic
Rihanna's doing it and so can you! This retro pattern is so fun to play with, wear it on your shoes, your shirts, pants you name it! holographic clothes are sure to make a statement this summer so find yourself a holographic bikini and werrrk it gurrl.
7. Bold Nails
A little burst of flava at the beach will surely make the mermaids jealous. That party on your toes will be the life of the dance floor so mix it up don't be scared go bold on the nails!
8. Cray sunnies
Summer fashion should be all about having fun and trying out new things so yes, grab that pair of cray sunnies and do it Gaga style...
9. Long and flowy
It's time to drop the jersey maxi skirt ladies! Below is my favorite dress on the planet, the solid blue Peter Som worn by Lea Michele. It looks great on the runway but you can see that its built for shorter girls like Lea because it looks more amazing on her than it does on the model! Long and flowy dresses such as these two are perfect for summer and always have been:)
10. Tropical prints
Tropical prints are very resort and have just come back into style and it's stunning and also fun. Things with pineapples, fruits, palm trees and flowers are must-wears this summer.
11. Strappy sandals
Who can go wrong with a great pair of sandals? Gladiators or heels, Aquazurra or Wang, let your feet breathe this summer in a sassy strappy sandal with a tang.
12. Crop Tops
This may sound incredibly cliché but crop tops are trending and for some women, belly button space is the answer to feeling the summer spirit! But oh be careful, without the proper styling, a crop top can turn out to be anything but classy. Just remember, if your bottoms aren't high waisted when wearing a crop top, make sure that it does not go further up than just above your bellybutton. Crop tops are obviously short so keep your bottoms long, long skirts and pants with a crop top is definitely the way to go. If you do decide to go with a shorter skirt or pant, make sure that the crop top meets your belly button or below.
